The Assessment Process

Interviews.
Clinical interview with client (this process includes an in-depth look at family history, medical/psychological history, and school/job functioning and performance.
Clinical interviews with those who know the client well (this might be a parent, friend, or even another medical/mental health provider).

Rating Scales.
Various rating scales will be administered in-person or via e-mail.
Some rating scales are self-reports, and others are intended for those who know/work with the client.
Broadband and narrowband social, emotional, and behavioral rating scales screen for a variety of mental health concerns.
Rating scales targeting one’s executive functioning skills will be used.

Testing.
Test of Variables of Attention (TOVA). The TOVA is a medical device that aids in the assessment of attention deficits, including ADHD).
Selected subtests from various cognitive assessments targeting attention, processing speed, memory and learning, and executive functions.
Additional assessments to rule out learning/processing disorders as appropriate. In some cases, academic achievement testing will be administered.
